(Westport, CT) –April 27, 2012Students and teachers at Coleytown Middle School (CMS) will once again battle for top honors and raise money for a good cause at "On Fire vs. Just Retire" the 12th Annual Charitable Faculty Basketball Game.  ALL proceeds from ticket sales, tickets for door prizes, raffle and auction items available only at the game will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, CT Chapter.

Students in CMS’s Grade 8 are looking to rise to victory again against their teachers on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 6:30 P.M. at the Staples High School Gym.  Last year's 8th grade handed the CMS Staff, The Dream Team, a stunning defeat as Connor Whelan sunk a half court shot as time expired.  Although the students lead the series 6-5,  the primary focus of the faculty game is to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.   "CMS has raised nearly $111,500 since the inception of this big event eleven years ago," says Todd Zavorskas, CMS Grade 8 Science Teacher and Coordinator of the annual event. "This year we hope to break the $120,000 mark." The Connecticut Chapter of The Society is looking forward to another exciting game that will help many people with blood cancer. "This event gets more successful every year," says Brandy Bitzer, Youth Campaign Coordinator, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society CT Chapter.  "We appreciate Coleytown Middle School's effort and generosity in helping us in our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma."

With the support of both CMS students and staff, over 200 special items will be given away and auctioned off to raise money for the cause. Signed items include a Julia Mancuso pair of racing skis, Tyler Senguin Bruins jersey, ESPN banner,  Coach Mike Krzyzewski  photo, & a Bernie Williams baseball.  There are many other exciting items that are not signed including a Tony Steward #14 NASCAR door panel, Sports Center of CT gift certificate, Lake Compounce tickets, Dennis the Menace original comic sketch, an original monotype by Joyce Zavorskas, The Daily Show tickets, Jetpack comics, and more.

We have just secured a 2010-11 UCONN Men's NCAA team signed basketball.  This is the national championship ball.  Chances will be raffled at $10 each.

"The 'On Fire vs. Just Retire' faculty basketball game not only raises money for charity, but also unites the CMS population," explains Mr. Zavorskas. "CMS students and their families get to see their teachers in a totally different light," he adds. "I think this is one of the best nights on the school calendar because it is both fun and fulfilling. The game is secondary to what’s really important about the evening—raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and also having our ‘really lame’ bodies try to keep up with these kids!"
